Hands-on energy work

How does it work?

The practice of hands-on energy work rests on the understanding that a vital energy is flowing through all living organisms – plants, animals, humans. This energy regulates the function of the whole system and of each body part down to its cells. It facilitates the body’s ability to heal wounds, restore balance and uphold the natural flow of all its functions. Some life events (physical injuries, trauma, mental or emotional blockages) can cause this natural flow to stagnate. In addition, the lifestyle that many of us entertain nowadays can cause imbalance in our system through stress, lack of movement or lack of sleep, to name just a few. This in turn ripples out onto our health and well-being.

The body is constantly seeking to heal and re-balance itself. A hands-on energy session supports the client’s system with a targeted influx of vital energy (the same energy that we all have in our bodies). This supports the client’s process of loosening up some of the existing or forming stagnation. The energy is directed onto key body parts of the client through the hands and focused intent of the practitioner. It is then received by the client’s system and processed as needed for its natural healing process. This flow of energy can be perceived through medium or intense heat, tingling and pulsating sensations. Sometimes, a temporary feeling of numbness and pain can accompany these perceptions.

How does a session take place

The client lies down on the massage table fully clothed. In cases where this is not possible due to physical limitations, the session can take place in sitting.

The session lasts about 60 minutes, in addition to 10 minutes before where we shortly discuss possible symptoms and sensations, and 5 minutes afterwards for the transition out.

Clients are kindly asked not to consume alcohol on the day of or before the session, and if possible, to renounce taking painkillers beforehand. These substances inhibit the body’s natural flow and its response to the treatment.

Important notice

Hands-on energy work is a non-invasive complementary practice that does not replace medical advice or treatment, It should never be applied as the only treatment to an existing medical or emotional issue. It is an excellent practice to incorporate as a complement to other treatments and therapies, in order to support the integration and regulation of the latter. It is also great to regularly receive sessions as a prevention, to support the body in its daily natural flow and to help dissolve stagnation before it gets a chance to start accumulating.

What to expect after a session

Clients often feel a feeling of relaxation, sometimes also drowsiness or tiredness. In some cases, physical pain may temporarily be increased after the session as the body rearranges itself following the reduction of stagnation.

The body continues to integrate the effects of the session for hours and days afterwards. It is beneficial to give yourself some space for that integration.

It is good to drink enough water after an energy therapy session. Light movement such as a walk, or gentle stretching or calm yoga if it feels like it, can also be very beneficial.

Just like sports and other health and wellness practices, hands-on energy work is cumulative, which means that the benefits multiply and build onto each other over the course of several sessions.
